GATE 2019 Admit card will be made available on 4th January, 2019 only for a limited period of time. It can be downloaded by logging in to Gate Online Application Processing System and entering your enrollment number. For full procedure read below.

GATE 2017: An Overview

The history of GATE examination dates back to 1984 when it was first held and since then it is conducted once every year. With a continuous increase in the number of applicants, it has a qualifying rate of 15%. One can say those qualified are the crème da la crème. Now that it’s time for this exam again here’s an insight of everything you need to know about GATE 2019.

ABOUT THE EXAM

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering commonly known as GATE is a National level exam held every year for post graduate category. The 7 IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore) conduct this examination on rotation basis. GATE 2017 will be conducted by IIT Roorkee. It consists of 23 papers. This exam is a medium to take admission in M’Tech/M.E courses offered by IITs, NITs, GFTIs, state universities and various private institutions across the country. Candidates can also get direct admission in a PhD course. Recruitments are done on the basis of Gate score card and it can also be used for direct recruitment to ‘Group A’ level posts in Cabinet Secretariat. Gate score remains valid for three years. The entire process of application form, admit card, test and result is completely online. More than 9.23 Lakhs candidates have applied for GATE this year and every year the no. keeps rising.

Here are a few guidelines you should be aware of if you are appearing for GATE-

GUIDELINES FOR GATE 2019

  • There will be a total of 23 papers.
  • Candidates can apply for only one paper.
  • General aptitude section is common in all papers.
  • GATE score will be valid for three years.
  • GATE 2019 along with the application process will be held in online mode through GOAPS [GATE online appearing system].
  • Internet downloaded mark sheet will not be accepted.
  • Candidates are not allowed to take any electronic device such as mobile phones, watches etc. Biometric information will be taken of random students before the examination.
  • Those found with any such devices will be disqualified and their score will be withheld.
  • Candidates are not allowed to take physical calculator with them; virtual calculator will be available on the computer screen.
  • For recruitment and admission process students should keep their admit card safe for the next three years.
  • GATE score card can be downloaded within a specific period of time.
  • Only qualified students can download score card.

A no. of new announcements have been made regarding GATE 2019 let’s have a look at them-

GATE 2019: NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • International candidates from Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and U.A.E [United Arab Emirates] can apply for GATE 2019.
  • Three new centers are added i.e. Dibrugarh (IIT Guwahati Zone), Burdwan (IIT Guwahati Zone), and Gorakhpur (IIT Kanpur Zone).
  • In (XE) paper of engineering sciences a new section on Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences has been added.
  • XE paper will now consist 8 sections i.e. from section A to H
  • Candidates can now choose their second exam city preference from the same zone as that of the first city.
  • Candidates should upload their thumb impression during application process.
  • Those candidates who have completed their degree before 2017 should upload a scanned image of their degree completion certificate or final semester mark sheet.
  • For final year students who will complete their course in 2019 should upload a scanned image of their third year (5th/6th semester) or fourth year (7th/8th semester) mark sheet.
  • Similarly backlog students can also apply for GATE 2019. They can upload a scanned copy of their completion certificate/ 6th semester mark sheet or provisional certificate.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Register through your Email Id and mobile no.
  2. Fill the application form by entering all the details.
  3. Upload all the mentioned documents (Photograph, Thumb Impression, Signature, Semester mark sheet, Degree certificate etc.)
  4. Pay an application fee of Rs. 1500. For SC, ST, Pwd and Female candidates the application fee is Rs. 750 while for International candidates it is USD 50. Application fee is non-refundable.
  5. Check your application status under these categories- (Received, Accepted, Under scrutiny, Defect status, Status after Rectification, Rejected with valid reasons, Admit card ready for download)

CORRECTION IN APPLICATION FORM

  • Corrections can be made in category, gender and exam city.
  • Correction window will remain open from 31st October (11:00am) till 7th November (6:00pm).
  • Those applicants who are making change in the category should send their mail to 2019@gmail.com by 6:00pm on 26th November 2019.
  • Subject your mail as (Gen/OBC to SC/ST).
  • In the mail mention your name, Category change, Enrollment ID.
  • Required documents should be attached in the mail attachment.
  • Pay the correction fee through online mode only.

Exam Sections              Engineering Mathematics is compulsory for papers with these codes (AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PI, TF and XE). Main subject of the paper is for 70% of the total marks.

              The main subject will be of 85% of the total marks for papers with these codes (AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH and XL).

 

XE Paper             Section A is compulsory

Any two sections from B to G.

Any two sections from I to M

Attempt Section H of chemistry

GATE 2019: SYLLABUS

It is very important for the applicants to understand the syllabus. For systematic, logical and managed preparation one should know what all is the part of the syllabus. GATE syllabus is categorized into different disciplines. Every paper syllabus is different based on the core subject studied during the qualifying exam. Here is a detailed version of GATE 2019 Syllabus.

GATE 2019: ADMIT CARD

One cannot sit for the examination without an admit card. So here are some key points on GATE 2019 admit card and how to download it.

  • GATE 2019 Admit card will be made available on 4th January 2019
  • Candidates can download their admit card by logging in to GOAPS
  • Print your admit card
  • Entry in examination hall will not be allowed without an admit card and a valid and original photo identification.
  • International candidates should carry their passport along with the admit card
  • For recruitment and admission process students should keep their admit card safe for the next three years.

ANSWER KEY

An answer key is an official solution sheet published by the authority to display the answers of the examination. Applicants can tally their answers through it. It is often uploaded a few days after the examination.

RESULT DECLARATION

GATE 2019 result will be declared on 16th March, 2019. Candidates can check their results on GATE Online Application Website. This result will only display the performance of the candidates. GATE result can get candidates admission in M.Tech and recruitment in PSUs.

SCORE CARD

Only those candidates who have qualified will be able to download their score card. GATE 2019 score card will be made available from 20th March till 31st May, 2019. It includes result details and rank obtained. GATE score card will be valid for the next three years.

CUTOFF

GATE cutoff is released by the authority. A cutoff is the minimum marks required to qualify the exam. Different institutions have different cutoff so this can help candidates to understand how many marks are required to secure admissions in IITs, NITs, GFTIs and others.

This year (GATE 2019) it is conducted by IIT Roorkee. The application process for the exam started on 1st September, 2018 and the no. of applicants reached more than 9.23 lakhs. Students can make payment only through online mode and e-challans (at bank counters). After form submission candidates can also check their application form status i.e. (Received, Accepted, under scrutiny, Defect status, Status after Rectification, Rejected with valid reasons, and Admit card ready for download). Though the application process has now ended, candidates can make correction in their application form in particular categories.

Details regarding correction in the application form are as follows-

  • Corrections can only be made under- Category, Gender, Exam city.
  • Changes will not be made in mobile numbers and email ids.
  • Correction window will remain open from 31st October (11:00am) till 7th November (6:00pm).
  • Those applicants who are making change in the category should send their mail to 2019@gmail.com by 6:00pm on 26th November 2018.
  • Subject your mail as Gen/OBC to SC/ST.

[VIRTUAL CALCULATOR]- GATE 2019 is a national level exam for post graduation category held once every year. It helps candidates take admissions in various IITs, NITs, GFTIs and other institutions across the country. It is conducted in usually February every year. GATE has a qualifying rate of 15%. As it is a prestigious exam conducted by 7 IITs and IISCs it has many rules and guidelines. One of them is the use of virtual calculator instead of physical calculator.

Important points-

  • Candidates will not be permitted to bring physical calculators
  • Virtual calculator will only be made available during the time of examination
  • It is an online calculator with all the functions and operations
  • Students can access it by the use of mouse
  • It is a non-programmable calculator
  • Cubic, quadratic and simultaneous equations cannot be solved through it

 

Key Features-

  • There are two boxes at the top of the virtual calculator. The operations conducted are displayed in the topmost box and the results are displayed in the second box.
  • All the numeric keys for input and operators are on the right hand side of the calculator.
  • All the scientific functions are on the left hand side of the calculator.
  • Trigonometric and Hyperbolic functions are grouped together and their inverse is displayed below them.

[Exam pattern]-

GATE 2019 is organized by Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee this time. The exam along with the application process will be held in online mode through GOAPS [GATE online appearing system]. And payment will be done through online mode and e-challans. GATE 2019 various exam cities are divided under 8 zones. Three new centers are added this year i.e. Dibrugarh (IIT Guwahati Zone), Burdwan (IIT Guwahati Zone), and Gorakhpur (IIT Kanpur Zone).

  • There will be a total no. of 65 questions
  • The question will be divided into many sections

[Admit card]-

GATE 2019 Admit card will be made available on 4th January, 2019 only for a limited period of time. It can be downloaded by logging in to Gate Online Application Processing System and entering your enrollment number. A candidate must carry it with them in the examination hall. Along with the admit card students should carry an original valid photo identification (same as mentioned in the application form). You will not be permitted without an admit card and the photo id. International candidates should carry their passport along with the admit card. GATE 2019 admit card include details like the name of the candidate, category, enrollment id, exam schedule details and exam center address. It is advised for students to keep their admit card safe for the next three years for admission and recruitment process.

One cannot sit for the examination without an admit card. So here are the steps on how to download it:

Steps to download GATE 2019 admit card-

Step 1: Visit GOAPS window and log in by entering your enrollment id and password.

Step 2: Click submit

Step 3: The admit card will display on the screen.

Step 4: Download and print the admit card for future use.

 

[Result]- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is regulated by 7 IITs and IISCs (Bangalore). This year (GATE 2019) it is conducted by IIT Roorkee. It conducts a total no. of 23 papers in various disciplines. A candidate can only appear for any one examination. The declared date of result announcement by the official website for GATE 2019 is 16th March, 2019.
